Gaza, 22/11/2016--- specialists agreed that coordinating with the universities for building the capacilities of media graduates and Affording the needs of journalistic training is a necessity, so that the graduates' reality could be better.
Face The Press" Meeting organized by Press House was in the presence of Dr.Tala'at Issa, head of journalism department at Islamic University- Dr.Majed Terban, the head of journalism at Al-Aqsa University- Dr.Zuhair Abed, the dean of journalism at Al-Aqsa University- Dr.Mohammad al-Bardawil, representative of journalism department at AlZahar University- Dr.Yahya Al-Madhoun, representative of College of intermediate Studies- Dr.Raed Khader, head of media department at Gaza university- Shady Abu Lehya, head of media department of Palestine university- Dr.Wael Abdel A'al, head of media department at the university college of Gaza, Naser Oreny, head of media department at Namaa' College- Salama Ma'rouf, head of governmental media office - Fathy Sabbah, head of communication and development Institute- Dr.Ahmad Hammadm representative of Mada Center- and a number of specialists, journalists, writers, and current graduates.
Balal Jadallah, chairman of Press House, opened the meeting with a speech about the importance of this meeting within the increase on the number of media and journalism students from various universities.
Dr.Tala'at Issa, head of media department at Islamic university of Gaza, talked briefly about the origination of media department and the number of graduates of the department till now.
He indicated that his department focuses on the practical aspect of training through developing the study plan and adding more materials to overcome the problematic gaps faced by the graduates.
In his turn, Zuhair Abed, the dean of media department at Al-Aqsa university, explained about the development of media department and the reality of practical training presented them, showing that his department has demanded the Ministry of Education a license to open Master department for public relations major. He noted that the political disputes have affected on the situation of the university in general and the department of media in particular, indicating that the demands of financially and academically developing the department were all in vain.
Despite the miserable situations the university has facing, it cooperated with various media organization in an individual way not an official one.
Terban confirmed that importance of uniting the efforts of the media colleges of universities for the developing the quality of journalism departments in Gaza.
In his turn, Mohammad Al-Bardawil from Al-Azhar university, talked about the history of establishing the department and repairing new departments like media and mass communication, noting that there's a plan for the department to establish media and mass communication in English major.
He noted that cooperation between the department and other media organization is poor, as these organization reject training requests of graduates.
Al-Bardawil indicated that the department is in need for libraries and studio for the students to develop their capacilities.
Yahya Al-Madhoun, from the intermediate college, talked in his speech about the method of accepting the students of the department since its establishment.
He noted that the department focuses on the practical aspects of editing and photography, despite the lack of libraries needed.
Al-Madhoun asserted that his department is trying to develop the practical training and the capacities of the academic staff to keep the pace of development in the world.
He indicated that there are plans for developing the curriculum based on the needs of the media field taking into accounts the individual differences.
Raed Khader from Gaza university, talked about the study plans of the department and the extent of its focus on the practical training.
He noted that there's a studio for training, where students of the university and others are trained. He also said that there are libraries and laboratories for media students.
Khader pointed out that the lack of united plans even in the hours of courses is a challenge faced by media department.
Sahdy Abu Lehya from Palestine University talked about the development in plans and curriculums in a way that keeps the pace of development. He noted that there are libraries, studios and various halls in the department that contribute to developing the training level of students.
Abu Lehya recommended that bridging cooperation among media departments at universities is a necessity.
In his turn, Wael Abdel A'al stressed on the difficult situation journalism is suffering from including the issue of developing the curriculums and plans of studies.
Naser Al-Areeny from Namaa' College, said; " We are trying to make plans mostly similar to the other universities', so that the students can complete their studying at any universities after then.
He added; " there's a problematic gap we are facing which is the lack of uniting the courses of the colleges and departments in Gaza."
Al-Areeny pointed out that there's a necessity to establish training center for students and graduates, as well as a license of practicing work.
In his turn, Salama Ma'rouf, head of governmental media office, praised Press House efforts in conducting such meetings like this, noting that there are 24 media& journalism department and other institutes& academies, where they graduate more than 500 students annually.
He considered uniting the plans of study is an illusion, since there is a difference in the names of courses and their contents.
Ma'rouf stressed that there are no media organization that is capable to receive this big number of graduates for training.
Discussion door was opened for the attendees and the heads of media & journalism departments of university, in a purpose of attaining the objective of this meeting, which is to develop the media departments of universities and to get some recommendations to be later published.
