Press House holds an awareness session on the topic of "Labor Rights for workers in the field of Media"

On Monday, July 12, 2021, Press House - Palestine (BAS) held an awareness session on the topic of "Labor Rights for workers in the field of Media", as part of "Legal Protection for Palestinian Journalists" project activities, in partnership with the European Endowment for Democracy.

The awareness session was held in Gaza City, with consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID 19, in presence of lawyer Mr. Hadi Shuhaibar, a number of Journalists (women and men), students and graduates of media colleges.

Lawyer Mr. Abdullah Sharsharh, Coordinator of the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House, opened the session and stressing that Press House holds a number of specialized legal awareness sessions throughout this year which talked about legal cases related to journalism fields. Chosen these cases based on an analysis made by Legal Protection Unit and related in the most important cases and obstacles which faced journalists (women and men) during the previous five years.

From his part, lawyer Mr. Hadi Shuhaibar presented goals of the workshop and mentioned that it aims basically to aware journalists about their legal rights in light of Labor Law and these rights enable journalists to work in an environment suitable to enjoying rights and journalistic freedoms.

Also, he presented the most important Palestinian Labor Law materials and rights which given for journalists in the case of: injury cases, compensation for damages, mechanisms of organizing work contracts and their types.

The awareness session included a number of participations from journalists (women and men), which focused on knowledge and how to protect the rights of journalists (women and men) at their institutions.

This awareness session is one of many sessions held by Legal Protection Unit, in order to highlighting on many cases related to legal awareness for journalists and media freedoms according to international standards.
