Gaza – Press House
Press House – Palestine (BAS) organized a training course on the topic of “Media Freedoms in International Conventions and Treaties” as part of “Journalists Have Power” project activities in partnership with the French Consulate in Jerusalem.
With consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, the course lasted for three days for a number of journalists (women and men) and media graduates.
Dr. Mohammed Zayed, Lawyer and the trainer of the course, reviewed the aspects of the course such as the concept of media freedoms, their basic principles, the international conventions media freedoms organize, and the most important conventions are the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant Civil and Political Rights (1966).
The training course included a number of global declarations issued by the United Nations and the specialized bodies such as the international Labour organization, the 1978 declaration of the United Nations Organization for Culture and Science (UNESCO), the Tsawani Declaration in South Africa, Johannesburg Declaration, and restrictions on media freedoms in democratic societies.
It's noteworthy that the course within the “Media Freedoms and the Legal Culture for Journalists” training program aims to raise the awareness and knowledge for the participants in the international legal framework concerning media freedoms and journalistic works especially the agreements signed by Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas in 2014, and to enhance their knowledge in the fundamental Journalists' rights, particularly those related to the freedom of media and journalistic work.
