Press House organizes a training course on the topic of “The National Legislations related to the Media Freedoms”

Press House - Palestine (BAS) organized a training course on the topic of “The National Legislations related to the Media Freedoms” as part of “Journalists Have Power” project activities in partnership with the French Consulate in Jerusalem.

With consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, the training course lasted for three days targeting journalists (women and men) and media graduates.

Ms. Heba Al-Danaf, lawyer and trainer of the course, reviewed the aspects of the course which briefed the national legislation related to protecting the media freedoms and rights that regulate journalistic work and form a legal base for journalists.

The training course included an explanation for many local laws, such as the Palestinian basic law of 2003, publishing and publications law of 1995, cybercrime, Palestinian punishment law for 1936, and criminal procedure law.

Ms. Heba Al-Danaf pointed out that the course aimed to aware journalists (women and men) and media graduates of their legal rights and to provide Palestinian media professionals with the legal protection while they are practicing their work. She stressed the journalists (women and men) need to be aware of the governing laws concerning journalistic work in Palestine, their rights according to the Palestinian law, and how to protect themselves from the violations.

This course is part of the training program on the topic of "Media freedoms and legal culture for journalists" project activities implemented by Press House which aims to deepen the participants’ knowledge on the international legal framework related to media freedoms and journalistic work and to enhance their knowledge of the basic rights of journalists, especially those related to the media freedom and journalistic work.
