The committee delegated to the workers in the rehabilitation centers in the Gaza Strip camps held a press conference at Press House - Palestine(BAS), to talk about the decision of UNRWA to terminate the services of 106 employees in the Gaza Strip.
The Committee delegated to the workers in the rehabilitation centers in the Gaza Strip camps, expressed its position disagreeing UNRWA decision to suspend (106) contracts for rehabilitation center workers at the end of June 2020, which increases the humanitarian burden and effects on the service provided for disabled people.
The committee said: "For more than 15 years we have been working on the same permanent and unfair unemployment contracts, without minimum salaries, without pension or any job rights that guarantee a decent life for our families.
The committee added that it keeps pace with all that is new in order to provide better service to this marginalized group, the most recent of which was E-learning due to the Corona pandemic, which starts from early intervention to the ninth grade, to educate 800 children with different disabilities, in addition to providing rehabilitation services to thousands of adults.
The Committee confirmed that UNRWA, with these unjust steps, is throwing us into an unknown fate that perpetuates poverty, unemployment, hunger, deprivation , and has done so without humanitarian consideration for us, our families and for people with disabilities whose rights are advocate on International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The Committee called UNRWA to reverse the unjust decision and to improve the terms of the contract to ensure that workers and their families have the right to human dignity that UNRWA has placed in its offices.
It also called to ensure that people with disabilities continued assistance and open school year in August 2020, as well as its role in providing the budget required for the continuation of the program.
In conclusion, the committee called for all Palestinian forces and factions, popular and civil committees, civil society organizations, and the media to keep up with their movements and adopt them, to work together to pressure on UNRWA administration to reverse its unjust and unfair decision.
