On Wednesday, the Teacher Creativity Center and the Education Coalition organized a press conference at the Press House-Palestine, west of Gaza City, in order to launch the activities of the global action week of education, that runs from April 24th to May 1st 2019.
The conference announced the launching of the campaign of the global action week of education 2019, entitled:” Education figures my right, identity, dignity and freedom “, which aims to demonstrate the education as a human right.
The campaign focused on children, youth and teachers with disabilities, and focused also on refugees, vulnerable, disadvantaged and poor communities and students in conflict areas. It also calls for the provision of an appropriate infrastructure and school materials that are easy to get.
Taghreed Abu Mathkour, A member at the Palestinian Education Coalition, said that:" In light of the world's interest in education and the United Nations system, which has worked on a durable review of sustainable development related to education and in response to the civil society movement that has paid attention to its participation in accountability to achieve the fourth goal of the sustainable development until 2030. The education and its funding will remain a guarantee based on the relationship between learning and socio-political and economic issues ".
Abu Mathkour added:” "My education is my right “is the most important topic of the 2019 campaign. This right remains unaffected by all internal and external challenges. As education has remained cohesive despite the scourge of division, and the Coalition continues to lead the education campaign in Palestine in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, in parallel with educational organizations and coalitions campaigns at 100 countries around the world in 2019 ".
During the conference both of the Teacher Creativity Center and the Palestinian Education Coalition called for media to overcome its stereotyped and superficial role towards education.
The two parties pointed to the need to provide a radical solution to the funding of UNRWA schools rather than dealing with the crisis unprofessionally to make partial pledges for the interest of UNRWA, and called on donor countries to ensure the domestic implementation of the plan's objectives of the sustainable development and to continue to fund education.
