On Sunday ,Press House - Palestine Conducted an open discussion meeting to present and discuss the first version of a Survey on the Reality of Press and Media colleges and institutions in Gaza Strip.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Government Media Office in Gaza , Mr. Salama Ma'arouf, the Vice President of Journalists Syndicate, Dr. Tahsin Al-Astal, the General Secretariat of the Journalists Syndicate, with the presence of the heads of Press groups and the heads of department of Media faculties along with a number of journalists, academics and graduates of Media colleges.
The study, which was conducted by "Effects for Consulations and Development " Comapny for the Press house, highlighted the realities of journalism and Media sector as they exist in reality, as well as the sensitive issues of conern to the Palestinians.
During the welcoming speech of the Director General of Press House ,Mr. Belal Jadallah, He pointed out the importance of the survey due to the need to know the reality of the Palestinian Journalism through general statistical indicators. Adding that the reality in Gaza Strip becomes clear through this study by using scientific language that contains details, data and accurate figures with important implications,that could help in improving the knowledge of specialists to diagnose the weaknesses and strength in order to work according a clear methodology based on data which creates a clear vision and independency in the press reality.
Jadallah stressed that this study needs to be more detailed in order to know the reasons for compositing the elements that will be clear through the study and knowing its current and future impact. He also stressed that this version of the survey is preliminary and could be subject to more debate, study and modification.
Dr. Nahid Eid, the director of "Effects for Consulations and Development " Company, gave a presentation on the content of the study about its importance,objectives, problems, its methodology and the difficulties it has faced. Moreover, he discussed the results in light of the Palestinian division and the Israeli occupation imposed on the reality of journalists in Gaza Strip.
In his presentation, he also stressed the role of Media departments and Colleges in Gaza Strip and the required role from the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.
This survey on the Reality of Press and Media colleges and institutionsin Gaza Strip has concluded with a set of recommendations and results that were discussed in depth during the meeting ,in order to be professionally and objectively published in the final version of the study.
The meeting included discussions and inquiries from the attendance on the survey , who recomended some modifications, stressing at the same time that it presented important issues on the reality of media and journalism in the Palestinian territories.
