Implementing a Debate Initiative among the Pioneers

Under the auspices of Press House - Palestine, the cultural and social united association carried out a dialogue debate initiative in which students from the preparatory stage participated in the presence of a number of decision-makers in the education sector, civil society, parents, teachers and students.

This debate brought an educational issue entitled," The Council believes that emancipatory education raises the level of creativity in contrast to traditional education." The aim of this initiative is to involve students in research and dialogue on both current education and emancipatory education and their respective needs for developing and improving the individual and the Palestinian society. It was held with the participation of a qualified and specialized arbitration committee.

The pioneers also participated in specialized training sessions that qualified them to manage the debate with a specialist in education. They participated in analyzing the reality of current education in primary schools in Gaza Strip. They also learned about the concept of emancipatory learning and its principles. They learned about the leaders of this school and its achievements on the Palestinian and international levels such as Khalil Sakakini, Ziad Khaddash, Paulo Freire, Buddha and others.

During the debate, the pioneers presented a definition of both traditional and emancipatory education and pointed out their importance in providing evidence and examples of their success. The supporters of the cause presented content that shows that current education is unable to cope with the needs of the learners and their humanitarian requirements as individuals who have the right and freedom to participate, build, develop, express their views, share information and build knowledge and decision as required. On the other hand, emancipatory education seeks to promote these elements effectively and significantly.

Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Representative, Mrs. Duha Al-Msadar and the Director of the Press House Program, Mrs. Samar Al-Malfouh, paid a visit to the initiative. They expressed their happiness with the role played in activating the participation of the pioneers in the criticizing and developing education and planning the coming curricula with the participation of specialists and the local community, in addition to their experience in running this debate, which is one form of this education.

The initiative is one of the initiatives supported by "a Step towards Better Education" project funded by the German Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
