Under the Auspices Press House- Palestine and within the project of "A step towards better education", the union of secondary students' committees in the central governorate implemented the freedom path initiative, which aims to highlight the problems and challenges of education in Gaza Strip and to promote liberal education.
The initiative, one of four initiatives supported by Press House, is to enhance the concept and principles of liberal education, which aims to free the students from traditional education and encourage participation, discussion, critical thinking and equality.
The secondary students' union implemented an eight-hour learning day according to a program carrying out a group of free learning activities in a park in Az-Zawayda.
The initiative targeted more than 50 students, teachers and parents with the participation of education specialists and the initiative team.
The educational track included a series of learning activities, including "lovely gathering" activity where participants learned about the concept, philosophy and principles of liberal education. There was also, "graphics exhibition" activity in which participants reflected their response to the knowledge and ideas raised in the collective activity. After that, there was "free roots" activity, which presented the experience of the Palestinian writer and teacher Khalil Sakakini as a model of education and liberal school. It was concluded with a collective activity in which they participated in cooking in the garden and exchanging experiences in during this activity.
Mrs. Samar Al-Malfouh, Programs Director at Press House, expressed her happiness of the role by this initiative in spreading and promoting awareness about liberal education in Gaza Strip, particularly among students and teachers.
As I mentioned that free-track activity is a real application of the liberal education principles based on granting the learner a freedom of participation and experience, freedom of discussion, thinking and innovation.
Freedom Path initiative is one of the initiatives supported by the Press House which is part of "a step towards better education" project, implemented in partnership with the German Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
