Gaza, 07/03/2017--- Press House organized on Tuesday an awareness workshop on the occasion of the international woman’s day within Enhancing Freedom of Expression, the Quality and Independency of Palestinian Media Project’s activities, funded by the Swiss and Norwegian Governments.
The workshop presented by the journalist Mageda Al-Belbesi, targeted 24 journalists of both genders from different Journalism and media colleges of the Gaza Strip.
The workshop covered the issues of women in media, the development attained in media issues especially in regards to women in the written, auto and visual journalism. The journalist also discussed the obstacles that block the way to a fair Palestinian media that is able to present the women’s issues professionally not only on the national and seasonal occasions to deal with these issues.
Al-Belbesi stressed on the importance of making the issues of women a priority and part of the societal issue, where media also must pays attention to their issues.
She confirmed that women need to be given a space in the local newspapers, media outlets with a complete focus on all aspects, ages and kinds of groups.
Al-belbesi noted that this workshop aims at enhancing the role of media women and promoting their roles, as well as giving them a space to be decision makers in the media organization; hence, they will be able to present a media material that reflects a good image of woman, improving the bad image that media has been presenting throughout the previous years.
