Gaza, 01/03/2017--- Press House- Palestine organized on Wednesday “ Face the Press” meeting with Mr.Bo Shack, the Director of UNRWA Operations and a group of fresh young journalists.
Belal Jadallah, the Chairman of Press House, welcomed all the attendees, stressing on the importance of such meetings like this as they gather the journalists with the officials.
He praised Bo Shack’s prompt response of attending this meeting and other essential meetings that benefit the Palestinian society.
In his turn, Bo Shack recognizes that 2017 will be a difficult year for the UNRWA, due to the financial challenges the International Organization is currently facing.
He added:” UNRWA faces problems in funding due to the conflicts sparkled in the region.”
Bo Shack asserted that there will be several meetings between UNRWA and donors during this month to discuss the funding issue in order to access a lasting and stainable funding for UNRWA.
He also stated that UNRWA has built 24 schools, in the average of one school each month, where half of these school have already been opened while others are being worked on.
Bo Shack noted that the number of the beneficiaries is on the increase as it has increased for the period from 10 to 15 years, from 80.000 beneficiaries to around 1.0 million. He added: “this increase reflects the challenge that the UNRWA faces, where it’s considered a sadden issue.”
He noted that ‘UNRWA” employs each year differential number of employers in spite of the financial challenge the organization is facing.
During his speech, Bo Shack presented the services provided by UNRWA including education, health, rehabilitation and reconstruction contribution in the Gaza Strip.
Bo Shack added;” the situation in the Strip is bad especially since we can see how the graduates looking for a job, where some of them protested on the entrance of UNRWA headquarters to have a job. There are also many employers asking for job stability better than their current case.”
Moreover, he talked about the international organizations’ reports at the miserable living situations people in the Gaza Strip live upon.”
The meeting included an expanded discussion between the young journalists and the Director of UNRWA Operations, who answered all their inquiries and questions.
