Gaza,30/7/2016--- Within Expertise Exchange Program, Press House- Palestine organized a meeting about media coverage and the rules of local elections 2016, in the presence of a pile of journalists of both gender at the headquarter of the organization in Gaza city.
Al-Samouny, head of procedures and training of central election committee, stressed on accuracy and objectivity in conveying the journalistic message of media coverage for the local election, which is being held ion 8th of October. He also said that everyone should be far away from publishing anything that causes hatred, sectarianism, and intolerance among citizens.
He explained that local election is for the service of people, noting that it's got the attention of all Palestinian factions and people since it is the first time they've held these elections in the Gaza Strip and West Bank after 10 ten years had passed.
Al-Samouny added that the election committee concerns about the timetable of election throughout its different stages.
In his turn, Abu Jayyab confirmed that conducting this meeting is a necessity to clarify some terminologies and wrong concepts that journalists and media organizations use, praising Press House for organizing this meeting.
Abu Jayyab stressed on the importance of delivering the media message addressed to the Palestinian Public opinion in an objective and sheer way for ensuring honesty and quality of it.
He also mentioned that being accurate in delivering numbers and statics, where they must be got from a reliable source- the headquarter of election committee in Ramallah or the regional office in Gaza-is a necessity.
Abu Jayyab wondered why some writers and analysts keep delivering numbers and statics upon personal endeavor.
He explained that each journalist has the right to covering all phases of election process through getting credit card that allows them to enter all election centers.
For correcting any wrong information or data published, Abu Jayyab noted that the election committee has formed media committee as a contact with journalists and media organizations.
The discussion door was opened, where the attending journalists asked questions and inquiries to the election committee representatives.
Worth noting that this meeting came within the activities of " Enhancing Freedom of expression, Democracy& Independency of Media in Palestine" Project which is funded by the Swiss and Norwegian Governments.
