Gaza, 12/5/2015 --- Press House – Palestine hosted “Frode Mouring” the special representative of the general director of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) at the organization’ main office in Gaza.

At the beginning of the conference, Hekmat Youssef – member of Press House’ BOD - welcomed Frode and the attendance, ensuring that Press House seeks to enhance freedom of expression and enable independent media in the Palestinian territories.

For his turn, Frode ensured that the United Nations have submitted an initiative to the Palestinian consensus government to merge health and education’ employees in Gaza, and that the initiative was welcomed by all parties.

He said: “UNDP discussed with the consensus government ways of providing required support to Gaza’s population and rebuilding in light of current circumstances.”

Mouring also talked about the latest practical steps UNDP did through sending 120 engineers to the strip to assess damage and needs. He added that UNDP prepared a discretionary study about the total cost of rebuilding Gaza.

Frode also ensured that talks with different countries, including Arab countries, are taking place to secure the financial needs for rebuilding Gaza. He also introduced to the consensus government the projects that will be implemented through the government, especially projects funded by Saudi, Kuwait, and Qatar.

Mouring called for the necessity of full coordination between United Nations and the government to implement housing projects and rebuilding damaged homes.

He also demanded to end the siege imposed on the strip and allow construction materials to enter Gaza to resume infrastructure and other projects.

Worth mentioning that this conference came as a part of “Face the Press” meetings funded by the Swiss and Norwegian governments as a part of “Enhancing Freedom of Expression, Democracy, and Independency of Palestinian Media.”
