Press House Organizes a Meeting about “Women’s Reality During and After War”

Gaza, 11/3/2015 --- Press House – Palestine organized a workshop titled “Palestinian Women’s Reality During & After War”, in presence of a group of feminist activists at the organization’s main office in Gaza.

Belal Jadallah, the head of Press House, ensured the Press House interest in showing and addressing women’s problems through organizing and hosting various events. Feminist activists, female journalists, and survivors of the last Israeli offensive ensured the continuation of women’s suffering after war in shelters; as it lacks the minimum necessities of life.

They talked about the reality of Palestinian women during and after war, through presenting the stories of some survivor women.

Amal Siam, the head of Women Affairs Center, said: “Women are suffering from social and health problems in shelters; as they’re exposed to family violence, in addition to arrestments and rape cases, even if these cases are few but it’s still a dangerous indicator about their reality.”

Siam indicated that the last offensive came in the worst conditions the people in the Strip are living in; where poverty level and unemployment rates were at their highest levels, especially among women.

For her turn, the journalist Majda Albelbesi, called media to have a more effective role in serving women’s causes, by reporting the suffering of displaced people in caravans and shelters.

She added that media reported the humanitarian suffering of displaced people in shelters to the world during the war. However, media outlets only provided media coverage to the event during war, and didn’t follow up its implications of the war on people.
