Gaza, 23rd of October, 2014 --- Press House – Palestine concluded a training course in “Ethics of Dealing with War Victims”, as a part of “empowering the Press House: a platform for freedom of expression, independent media, & Democracy project” funded by the Swiss and Norwegian governments.
The three-day training course targeted over twenty journalists who work in various media outlets and organizations. Dr. Mohsen Al-Efranjy, a lecturer in the Ismalic University of Gaza at the journalism department, provided the trainees with practical exercises of dealing with war victims.
The participants listened to various experiences from well known reporters and photo journalists in Gaza, mainly, Al-Jazeera channel reporter “Wael Al-Dahdoh” and the photo journalists at Reuters agency “Shams Shna’a”.
The course included various practical exercises, where participants were divided into groups and debates between them took place. The participants raised the content of the training course; as the journalist Omnia Abu El-Khair described the subject of the course as the first of its kind in Gaza.
While the photo journalist Mohammed Al-Shrafy expressed his satisfaction of the training course’ content, and the methodology of training which included both theoretical and practical sides.
“Journalists are in need for similar training courses, especially in the light of frequent offensives the Gaza Strip goes through”, Al-Shrafy added.
For his turn, Mr. Belal Jadallah, the head of Press House, promised to continue developing the training program Press House provides according to the needs of journalists in the Gaza Strip.
Jadallah also pointed out that the organization will provide further distinctive training courses in the future; to contribute to the development of the practical knowledge and expertise of Gaza’s journalists in different fields.
