Gaza, Tues, April 29 --- Press House–Palestine concluded a training course in occupational safety for journalists and media workers, as a part of empowering the Press House project:"A platform for Freedom of Expression, Independent Media, and Democracy", with the participation of 20 trainees (males and females) representing various media outlets.
"Samy Abu Salem" the trainer of the course, provided the participants with new knowledge and expertise related to occupational safety and how to avoid potential hazards they might be exposed to during their work and media coverage of events, confrontations, and armed conflicts. The course also included practical training exercises applied by the participants after they were divided into a number of groups during training sessions.
Belal Jadallah, the head of Press House, stressed the importance of applying the principles of occupational safety during the field work, pointing out to the necessity of considering the safety of journalists the first priority of all press and media outlets, by continuously organizing and implementing similar training courses and awareness programs dedicated to keep the journalists safe and secure.
Jadallah added that it's very important to reflect the outcomes of this training course on the practical life of the participants, as a first step toward securing and protecting journalists and media workers, and guaranteeing that those journalists are being protected from any injuries or risks they might be exposed to during their media coverage of events.
Worth mentioning that this training course comes as a part of an integral training program that will include the largest possible number of journalists and media workers from various provisions, and is implemented by the Press House with the fund of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs-Switzerland and the Representative Office of Norway.
