Gaza- Tues Jan 7 , 2014 --- Press House – Palestine organized a meeting with a group of Gazan journalists and Dr. Mohammed Shtayye, the member of Fateh central committee in Ramallah via Skype.
Mr. Belal Jadallah, the head of Press House opened the meeting welcoming the guests and thanking Dr. Mohammed for attending the meeting to discuss critical issues that concern Palestinian community, most importantly, reconciliation and internal political division issues.
Dr. Shtayye talked extensively about the latest developments regarding negotiations with the Israeli side and achieving reconciliation between Hamas and Fateh.
He said: "Those who think that a Palestinian state can exist without Gaza Strip are mistaken," noting that the Israeli coalition government doesn't currently intend to reach a peace agreement.
Dr. Shtayye also mentioned that until now, no official documents have been introduced into negotiations, and the visits conducted by U.S minister of foreign affairs "John Kerry" are just exploratory visits.
"President Mahmoud Abbas sent an important message to U.S president Barak Obama describing Palestinian constants, and stressing the clause that East Jerusalem is the capital of Palestinian state." He added
Dr. Mohammed noted that he resigned from the negotiation team for several reasons, most notably that Israel didn't stop building settlements in West Bank and they don't have any intentions to achieve a peace agreement.
Regarding the reconciliation issue, Dr. Shtayye praised the recent decisions taken by the Prime Minister of the Gaza government, Ismail Haniyeh on advancing reconciliation.
He said: "Our brothers in Hamas Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Mesha'al are exerting valuable efforts toward achieving reconciliation and ending internal division."
Dr. Shtayye revealed that Azzam Al-Ahmad; the responsible for the reconciliation file in Fateh will visit Gaza Strip soon to discuss the issue of reconciliation with Hamas leaders.
