Press House organizes a workshop on Identifying the Needs of New Journalists in Gaza

Gaza/ Tuesday, Press House- Palestine held a two-day workshop at Al Mat’haf Hotel and Cultural Center in Gaza under the name of “Identifying the Needs of New journalists and Media Graduates”. A group of writers, media people,  academics as well as more than 200 new journalists and media people including volunteers at media organizations participated in this workshop.


Miss Ghada Zayyan, the coordinator of the project funded by Switzerland, said that the project aims at making the Press House a platform for democracy and freedom of expression through administering programs which seek to empower the role of journalists and building their capacities for establishing free and independent journalism.


Miss Zayyan clarified that this workshop is a consultative and participatory workshop. It aims at encouraging the participation of new journalists, bloggers and media graduates in discussing their situation and identifying their problems and needs. This will come up with proposals and recommendations to be seriously studied by the Press House for inclusion in its future strategic plan. Zayyan added that Press House worked on implementing several activities for upgrading the Palestinian journalism.


In his turn, Mr. Belal Jadalla, head of Press House, said: “ Through this workshop we aim at shedding light on a special media segment which represents a nuclear for a truthful media work in future”.

Mr. Jadalla stressed that this new media segment is a top priority for the Press House, which was established mainly to create a more independent and free media for the prupose of establishing a more democratic society based on partnership and cooperation among different sectors (official and Civil).


Jadallah added that the Press House’s strategic plan included capacity building programs and upgrading the knowledge of media workers through holding workshops and intensive training sessions funded by a generous Swiss donation. “ We look forward during the coming months to implementing all the laid down programs and plans in an effort to reach a more developed and professional  media that keeps pace with the rapid movement of the evolution of global media and to serve Palestinian journalists who work under the most difficult circumstances and sacrifice their lives for the sake of doing their job.
