Press House concludes the first course of its media training program

Gaza/ Press House-Palestine concluded on Tuesday the first training course, titled “Fundamentals of journalism: objectivity and ethics”. This course comes as part of “Capacity Building of Journalists” project, funded by the FDFA-Switzerland.


The 3-day course hosted a group of journalists and media workers who shared their practical experiences with the trainees and gave them some advice on how to deliver the news objectively away from political affiliations.


Journalist Adel Al Zaanoon, a correspondent of French Press Agency (AFP), affirmed that “Professionalism is the journalist’s first weapon, confirming that working in all media organizations requires a high level of professionalism”. He also said that verifying the news comes before anything else and stressing, at the same time, the importance of the news sources, especially when working with international agencies.


Within the same context, the director of Programs and Reporters in Al-Quds Voice, Mr. Abd Al Nasser Abu Oun stressed the significance of media sources when covering big events, pointing out to the value of accurate information in media work.


Abu Oun talked about the role of local radio stations in media coverage during war, referring to the fact that those stations worked professionally.


For his part, the director of “Maan/mix” TV in Gaza Mr. Ibrahim Qannan, said that each journalist has his/her own opinions and orientations.Nevertheless, those orientations shouldn’t affect his/herarticles or editorials, such that any journalist doesn’t have the right to write a false story that is not based on a reliable source.
