On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, Press House launched the activities of the media campaign 'Journalism Under Digital Siege', on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalists, in Gaza City.
The campaign included a Twitter session on the hashtag #journalism_under_digital_siege in addition to the launch of a radio spot and a dialogue session.
The media campaign was opened by Ahmed Qannan from Press House, as he welcomed the attendees and emphasized the significance of removing the digital siege on journalists, especially those who experience violations on a regular basis.
Mr. Bilal Jadallah, Head of Board, stated that this campaign comes within the framework of Press House continuous efforts to promote freedom of opinion and expression, support independent media and enhance the professionalism of media in Palestine.
He continued, "The protection of journalists is a demand and a right in order to promote freedom of opinion and media to defend the rights of journalists while performing their work, pointing out that there is a clear increase according to special monitoring indicators and statistics conducted by Press House for violations against journalists, foremost the Israeli Occupation's violations of the right of Press Freedom.
He also pointed out that the demand to protect journalists, the right to freedom of opinion and expression and the right to access of information come from the priorities of defending the rights of journalists and addressing all violations against them, as the protection of journalists is a right guaranteed by all charters and treaties.
In his speech, Jadallah called for providing protection to Palestinian journalists, supporting them, enhancing their role, facilitating their tasks, and confronting all those who violate their rights. Along with calling for the legal prosecution of those responsible for the murder of Palestinian journalists, he also urged the international community to pressure social media companies to stop opposing the Palestinian narrative and to stop avoiding spreading it around the world.
