Violations against Media Freedoms in Palestine

The Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House - Palestine (BAS) has published a factsheet on the violations against media freedoms in Palestine in June 2023.

The factsheet highlighted violations committed against Palestinian journalists whether by Israeli Occupation, or Internal Palestinian entities, in addition to digital rights violations. The number of committed violations in June against Media Freedoms in Palestine reached (50), (44) Palestinian journalists or media organizations were exposed to these violations, including (4) female journalists.

The Legal Protection Unit at Press House has documented (44) violations committed by Israeli Occupation representing (88%) out of total violations, including (4) journalists who got injured by live bullets or rubber bullets resulting in two serious and moderate injuries, (2) internal violations representing (4%) out of total violations, and (4) violations of digital rights representing (8%) out of total violations.

The factsheet showed the distribution of violations by geographical area, as all the violations by Israeli Occupation were in the West Bank.

As for the internal violations, (1) violation was committed in the Gaza Strip representing (50%) out of total violations, and (1) violation was documented in the West Bank. As for the digital rights violations, The Legal Protection Unit has observed a significant decrease in the number of digital violations against journalists, where (4) violations of journalists ' digital rights were committed on Facebook platform.
