The Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House - Palestine (BAS) has published a factsheet on the violations against media freedoms in Palestine in May 2023.
The factsheet highlighted violations committed against Palestinian journalists whether by Israeli Occupation, or Internal Palestinian entities, in addition to digital rights violations. The number of committed violations in May against Media Freedoms in Palestine reached (89), the Legal Protection Unit at Press House has documented (52) violations committed by Israeli Occupation representing (59%) out of total violations, (2) internal violations representing (2%) and (35) violations of digital rights representing (39%).
The factsheet showed the distribution of violations by geographical area, as the violations by Israeli Occupation in the West Bank reached (51), and (1) violation committed in the Gaza Strip. As for the internal violation, (2) violations were documented in the West Bank. As for the digital rights violations, (5) digital rights violations were documented in the West Bank and (30) digital rights violations were documented in the Gaza Strip; especially during the last escalation on the Gaza Strip which took place in May 2023. It was noted that (91%) of the digital rights violations of Palestinian journalists were committed by "Meta", which includes (Facebook – Instagram – WhatsApp)..
