Gaza – Press House
The Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House - Palestine (BAS) has published a factsheet on the violations against media freedoms in Palestine in May 2021.
The factsheet explained violations committed against Palestinian journalists (women and men) by Israeli Occupation and internal entities in addition to the violations against digital rights.
In May 2021, the number of violations against media freedoms in Palestine has reached (289); the Legal Protection Unit at Press House has documented (208) violations committed by Israeli Occupation in the West Bank representing (72%) of the total number of violations and (6) internal violations representing (2%) out of total violations, in addition to (75) digital rights violations representing (26%).
The factsheet showed that, the distribution of Israeli Occupation violations by geographical region has indicated that a number of (136) violations in the West Bank representing (65%) of the total number of violations and a number of (72) violations in the Gaza Strip representing (35%).
Internally, the factsheet indicated that the percentage of internal violations by geographical region showed a number of (3) violations in the West Bank and a number of (3) violations in the Gaza Strip representing (50%) for both geographical regions.
During May 2021, Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip have been caused (72) violations against media freedoms, and the suppression of anti-settlement demonstrations in the West Bank have been caused (136) violations against media freedoms, and this led to a big increase in violations against media freedoms in comparison with April which have been witnessed only (31) violations of media freedoms.
During May, (284) Palestinian journalists (men & women) and media organizations were exposed to media freedoms violations.
