Press House holds a dialogue session on its Annual Report on Media Freedoms Status in Palestine 2021

Gaza – Press House

On Thursday, December 16, 2021, Press House-Palestine held a dialogue session on the topic of "Press House Annual Report on Media Freedoms Status in Palestine 2021", as part of "Journalists Have Power" project activities, in partnership with the French Consulate in Jerusalem.

The dialogue session was held in the Gaza City, with consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID 19, with participation of a number of journalists (women and men).

The session was opened by Mr. Abdullah Sharsharh "the Coordinator of Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House", stressing that in this session Press House aims to highlight on reality of media freedoms in Palestine.

Mr. Sharsharh stressed that media freedoms violations against Palestinian journalists and media workers during the period from January 01, 2021 until the end of October 2021, have been reached 799 violations in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. A number of 578 violations were committed by Israeli Occupation and a number of 87 violations were committed by internal entities in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, in addition to 134 violations were committed against Palestinian digital media rights.

Also, Mr. Sharsharh clarified that "the aggression against the Gaza Strip was directly target the Palestinian journalists, their offices and equipment. As resulted in one Palestinian journalist martyred, 10 injured with shrapnel of missiles, 4 Palestinian injured with shock and panic. The direct shelling led to total destroyed in 26 journalism offices and partial damage in 7 other offices".

The dialogue meeting included a number of participations by journalists (women and men), which focused on media freedoms status in Palestine and how journalists can get their rights by legal ways.
