Gaza - Press House
On Monday, November 29, 2021, Press House - Palestine (BAS) held a dialogue session on the topic of “Prospects for Applying the Six Dimensions Test to Examine Hate Speech in Palestine”, as part of "Legal Protection for Palestinian Journalists" project activities, in partnership with the European Endowment for Democracy.
The dialogue session was held in Gaza City, with consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID 19, with participation of lawyer Mr. Mohammed Zayed and in presence of a number of journalists (women and men), students and graduates of media colleges.
The dialogue session was opened by Mr. Abdullah Sharsharh "Coordinator of the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists" at Press House, stressing that Press House aims to highlighting on prospects of improving the legal environment against hate speech and to show journalists the standards that working on examine hate speech in light of lack of response from the Palestinian legal system side.
From his part, Mr. Mohammed Zayed "Session Facilitator", clarified that this test can identify cases that incitement to discrimination or violence becomes very dangerous and this lead to impose restrictions on freedom of expression, noting that the media laws in Palestine need to be updated, so we can apply this test through the judges.
