Press House Holds a Legal Awareness Session on "Procedures of Correcting Published Errors in Press Material Related with Law"

On Sunday, October 17, 2021, Press House-Palestine (BAS) held a legal awareness session on the topic of “Procedures of Correcting Published Errors in Press Material in related with the Law”, as part of "Legal Protection for Palestinian Journalists" project activities, in partnership with the European Endowment for Democracy.

The awareness session was held in Gaza City, with consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID 19, with participation of a number of journalists (women and men), students and graduates of media colleges.

The session was opened by Mr. Mohammed Al Jaesh (Lawyer at the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists), as he welcomed the attendees, stressing that Press House strengthening and building journalists’ capacity in many legal fields related to their profession.

Mr. Mahmoud Al Talouli, Facilitator of the Session, talked about some legal regulations on the necessity of correcting published error, stressing that when the errors happened in the provided information, abuse or fabrication, it should be corrected to publish the truth and avoid reader’s misleading.

Also, Mr. Mahmoud Al Talouli talked about mechanism of correcting the published error in the newspaper, stressing that Editor Director at the newspaper should correct for free in the part of following date of arriving the news, in the same place and letters which the news or article appeared in the press publication.

In addition, the right of replying in Palestinian law, so that the press publication allows the other party to correct what was mentioned in article or news published by press publication which published the information needed to be corrected.

The awareness session included a number of participations from journalists (women and men), which focused on problems they face during their media work.
