Gaza – Press House

On Sunday, April 4, 2021, Press House organized an awareness session for journalists on the topic of “Rumors and Fake News in the Palestinian Law” as part of “Legal Protection for the Palestinian Journalists” project activities in partnership with European Endowment for Democracy.

With consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, a number of journalists (women and men) and media graduates participated in the session held at Press House.

Ms. Fatma Ashour, lawyer and the facilitator of the session, reviewed the session’s aspects focusing on the definition of rumors and its risks during the Palestinian Elections. She also touched on the legal texts related to rumors and fake news in the Palestinian Penal Code mentioning the importance of ascertaining the sources of the news and its credibility and giving the parties the opportunity to respond on the information in the media material.

The awareness session included many participations from journalists (women and men); most of them focused on the media coverage from a legal perspective in order to provide journalists with the legal protection.
