Al Najah Media Center holds a workshop titled “Democracy between Theory and Practice”

On Thursday, Sep.19th, Al Najah Media Center, in corporation with the Press House, held a workshop entitled” Democracy between Theory and Practice, at the margins of the international day of democracy. 

Journalists, academics,intellectuals, and students of both genders of Media and law faculty attended the workshop, where Dr. Erling Lorenzten, the specialist in Middle Eastern Studies at Oslo University and Dr. Amjad Abu El Ezz, the Lecturer at the Political Science Faculty at Al Najah National University, gave a lecture at the workshop.

Lorentzen mentioned that practicing the democratic process gives the political system of any state, interior and international legitimacy.

At the same context, Dr. Amjad Abu El Ezz talked about democracy in general, from a western perspective especially in the European countries, pointing to the contradictions between the thoughts adopted  by those countries regarding democracy and  its application. 

The workshop marked an extended discussion resulted in confirming that democracy can’t be applied by the polls but within the societal awareness.

This workshop comes as part of a project “Towards an Independent Media Platform for Capacity building, Awareness, and Involvement of Journalists” Project, funded by the Norwegian and Swiss governments.
