On Monday, Sep 16th, The Media Center at Al-Najah National University in Nablus, in corporation with the Press-House held a dialogue discussion on" Fighting False News in the Absence of the Right to Access Information".
Journalists of both genders along with representatives from the Civil Community, attended the meeting. Which was led by the Journalist Waleed Batrawi, who set meaningful points and presented issues that raised the discussion.
He added that such news has a bad impact on society, and are considered deceivable to the public opinion, and we don’t have law that grant journalist the rights to access information, the matter that opens the way to the digital platforms to provide information without verification and with the absence of a preventive law.
From his side, the Journalist Samir Khweira praised the importance of intensifying such meeting and engaging journalists in the decision-making process. He also granted them the rights to access information, saying” Such meetings are considering so significant in the social media. We journalists suffer from the false news that are being provided
He added that” The absence of the information is the main source or rumors, the thing which affects the public opinion and the civil peace”, demanding the competent institutions to give a quick judge to the cases to settle them.
