Thank you all for inviting me today. And let me also thank Press House for organizing this important event.
Freedom of speech is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of not only of freedom and democracy, but also of sustainable development and prosperity.
Freedom of Speech includes opening up for criticism, or at the very least a frank discussion on the state of affairs. This is not easy for any community in the world. But it is all the more challenging for countries living through conflicts and wars.
Considering all conditions that you live under, in Palestine and especially in Gaza - your work is truly unique.
We are celebrating today achievements of young Palestinian journalists who have addressed matters that concern the Palestinian people with honesty, integrity and professionalism. I am happy that Norway is part of this not only as a donor but as a partner. We are all too aware of the hard social, economic and political challenges in Palestine, and will continue supporting the Palestinian people in your endeavours to fulfil your needs and rights and to live in a free state through peaceful settlements.
Norway, and our Swiss partners are happy and proud to cooperate with organizations such as Press House, who help young journalists to improve their skills, knowledge, and practical experience, to improve their employability and professional performance based on the principles of freedom of speech. We believe that the work of Press House and other organizations is strategic and vital to spread the free and true voice among the media, journalism and the community. Too really have an impact, this requires adequate cooperation with the related governmental partners who can work side by side for the best interest of the Palestinian community.
We would like to congratulate the winners, and wish you all the success in your efforts towards strong, honest and transparent journalism
