Gaza,30/4/2016--- Press House- Palestine honored the martyrs of journalists on the occasion of the international day of Journalism Freedom.
The ceremony was attended by a pile of the martyrs families of journalists and a number of journalists and media workers, where such photographs of the journalism martyrs of Gaza were displayed during the ceremony.
Belal Jadallah, the chairman of Press House, said " The international day of Journalism Freedom differs in Palestine from any other country all around the world, as we are celebrating while having tens of photographs for martyrs of journalists, who passed away , paving us a good way. "
He added," years pass and we are still appealing to account those who killed the journalists in Palestine and the Palestinian journalist is imposed to daily violations by the occupation; otherwise, other countries are celebrating the international day of journalism freedom, congratulating each other and praying for another year when they get more rights and protections, addressed by all conventions."
Jadallah noted that the international day of journalism freedom always passes, while Gaza journalists lack the simplest rights of movement and travel, which is considered to be contrary to all the conventions and worldwide norms. Besides, so many causalities of media workers who injured during their work cannot get outside for cure. The chairman of Press House asked to hold those who violated the rights of journalists responsibilities, and open the violations committed File, through which it obviously shows that these violations led to murdering and injuring tens of journalists, calling to respect the rights of journalists, and hoping that the coming year would be the international freedoms day.
He thanked the families of the martyrs, asserting that journalists will go through defending the truth whatever it costs, and stay loyal to their friends who passed away for freedom of speech.
In his turn, Jamal Al-Wehidy, the father of the martyr Ihab Al-Wehidy who manfully documented the Israeli crimes and violations against the Palestinians, said that what his son did led him to be targeted first by the occupation.
Al-Wehidy praised Press House for holding this ceremony to honor the parents of the martyrs, and the journalists for their participation in renewing this memorial and their appeals to hold the occupation responsibility of the crimes committed.
In his turn, Samer Musa, the officer of executive director of Al-Dameer Association For Human Rights, asked the families of the martyrs to rush presenting a complaint to the Public Prosecutor in Palestine, then ask to hold the occupation accountable for the crimes committed against the journalists as well as demand compensation for the damage.
Musa confirmed that it is necessary to develop the Palestinian legal capacity and to increase the number of qualified human resources, since the international criminal prosecution issue is not as easy as anyone thinks. Rather, it needs capacities like legal, physical and human capabilities to achieve the goal.
He asked the civil society institutions and the international organization to say something to the Israel, in order to stop its crimes committed against journalists, showing his readiness to embrace any idea from the families of the martyrs.
At the end of the ceremony, the parents of the martyrs of journalists were honored, and they received photographs of their sons.
