Press House and Organizations Network hold a Workshop about "Roles of Media in Serving Women's Issues"

Gaza, 26/11/2015--- In cooperation with Press House, the Nongovernmental organizations network held a workshop to boost the roles of media in women issues, as an activity of the 16 days to eliminate the violations against women. The meeting was attended by tens of journalists and workers of the both gender from the different media outlets, as well as a group of female activists. Those people confirmed that women are exposed to violence that requires to be much highlighted by media outlets.

Taghreed Jomaa, women file coordinator of Nongovernmental Organizations Network, criticized on Twitter how media tackles the issues of women and their news.

Jomaa stressed on the need for media workers to stop this neglect and re-respect women when spreading their news.

Hala Al-Qeshawy adjusted this neglect by saying that media is busy tackling the political issues and other events, but she never denied its responsibilities of covering their issues and highlighting them.

Fuaad Jarada, the correspondent of Palestine channel, criticized the women organizations in general and the NGOs in particular, for limiting their activities of women to a special group of women and paying biggest sums of money for hotels and restaurants where these activities held , ignoring all the homeless and suffering women.

In his turn, Ahmad Oda, the correspondent of the American SAWA Radio, said that the local journalists limit their work to the domestic news in general, and particularly the women ones. Oda added that theres no justifications for the journalists at all, calling the preachers and reform commissions to pay others attention to the consequences of humiliating one group of the society.
