Press House – Palestine Organizes Meeting with Hamas Leader Al-Zahar

Gaza- Mon Dec 8, 2013---Press House – Palestine organized a meeting with senior Hamas leader Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahar in the presence of a number of journalists and writers.

Head of Press House Mr. Belal Jadallah welcomed Dr. Al-Zahar for attending the meeting, which aims at encouraging freedom of expression and giving the opportunity for journalists to have access to new sources of information to empower media role in Gaza Strip.

The two-hour meeting was managed by two journalists, Shams Ouda and Nidal Al Mughrabi, who opened the door for journalists to ask their questions and discuss their demands  with Dr. Al-Zahar.

Politically, Dr. Al-Zahar asked “Fatah” to hold the national council elections, refusing any selectivity in the Palestinian reconciliation issue.

“Hamas agreed with Fatah on three elections: national council elections, parliamentary one and presidential elections. the agreement was signed by Abbas,” He said.

Al-Zahar also urged rival Fatah to implement and commit to the agreements reached in Cairo and Doha; claiming that Abbas wants the legislative elections to take place only in West Bank and Gaza Strip without committing to the rest of the agreement.

He warned against the negotiations taking place between PNA and Israeli side since they affect holy sites and Palestinian constants.
“The will of the Arab nations is the main determinant of their destinies,” He added

He also stressed that Gaza Strip, with its resistance and citizens will never give up to the Israeli occupation.

He also pointed out that Hamas is having good ties with all parties, ensuring that there’s no dispute with Egypt, and noting that his movement’s relationship is only economic, not a political one as the current Egyptian regime is refusing any political contact.

He mentioned there’s a media campaign led by some Egyptian journalists aiming at distorting Hamas image by involving Hamas unjustly in terrorist acts without any proven evidence.

Regarding Gaza’s government relations with Iran, Al-Zahar ensured that their connections had not been interrupted, but faced some obstacles because of the Iranian elections and the Syrian conditions.
