Gaza – Press House
On Monday, May 3, 2021, Press House-Palestine (BAS) organized a tweeting session on the hashtag “#Yes to Freedom of the Press” on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day for 2021.
With consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, a group of social media influencers and journalists participated in the tweeting session.
Social media influencers tweeted with the hashtag noting that the World Press Freedom Day is an occasion to remind the Governments around the world of the importance of international standards of media freedoms commitment and to commemorate journalists who have lost their lives to keep the flame of truth lighting.
Also, they considered that freedom of the press is a main condition of the democratic system, as it’s not guaranteed to have democracy without free and independent media; the existence of democracy guarantees transparent communities where each citizen has the right to access the information freely.
The participants noted that enabling the press to access information freely helps citizens to understand the current social, political and economic reality, as the press contributes to assess the performance of the Governments and officials in addition to strengthening the capacity of the state institutions to detect corruption cases and get rid of them.
It's noteworthy that Press House – Palestine is an independent, non-profit media institution that deals with issues related to media, freedom of opinion and expression and supporting of independent media.
