Press House organizes a cultural session on the topic of “The Palestinian Novel and Human Rights”

On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, Press House – Palestine (BAS) organized a cultural session on the topic of “The Palestinian Novel and Human Rights” as part of “Strengthening Free & Independent Media in Palestine” project activities funded by the Norwegian and the Swiss Governments.

With high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, Mr. Yousri Al-Ghoul, writer, Ms. Amal Abu Assy, poet and writer, Mr. Said Al-Khlout, Director of training department at the General Department of Mental Health at the Ministry of Health in Gaza, and a group of intellectuals and active writers in the Palestinian community participated in the cultural session.

Mr. Yousri Al-Ghoul opened the session indicating that the goal of the session is to invest the Palestinian novel in enhancing the principles of human rights, humanitarian law, and international law.

Ms. Amal Abu Assy reviewed some Palestinian novels that fully depicted human rights violations at varying periods of time, how people were depressed of changing reality leading to Palestinian division and how it significantly affected people’s life.

Ms. Abu Assy also emphasized that the novel is a form one of documentation which builds a strong intellectual community that supports human rights.

From his part, Mr. Saied Al Kahlout talked about some of novels that work on analyzing people’s psychology and emotionality as a result of being exposed to some events, and there are novels depicted the extent of human rights violations in previous years in addition to other countries that imposed slavery and put control over the society and their culture.
