On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, Press House – Palestine (BAS) organized an awareness legal workshop on the topic of “Crime of Insult, Slander, and Defamation” as part of “Strengthening Free & Independent Media in Palestine” project activities funded by the Norwegian and the Swiss Governments.
With consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, Mr. Monzer Al-Farany, the legal consultant, and a group of journalists (women and men) participated in the awareness legal workshop.
Mr. Monzer Al-Farany reviewed the implemented laws in Palestine concerning the crime of insult, slander and defamation in addition to the Palestinian penal law of 1936 applicable in the Gaza Strip and the publishing and publication law of 1995. He pointed out the pillars and exceptions of insult, slander, and defamation crimes and irregularities that may cause journalists (women and men) to be punished according to the Palestinian law.
The awareness legal workshop included many of participations and recommendations from journalists (women and men). Most of them focused on identifying the legal flaws and gaps in the journalistic materials to avoid getting in legal accountability.
