Gaza – Press House
On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, Press House – Palestine (BAS) organized a legal awareness workshop on the topic of “Legal Controls of the Right of Replay” as part of “Strengthening Free & Independent Media in Palestine” project activities funded by the Norwegian and the Swiss Governments.
With consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, Mr. Abdullah Sharshra, coordinator of the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House, Mr. Mohammed Al-Jeash, Lawyer, and a group of journalists (women and men), and media graduates participated in the legal awareness workshop.
Mr. Abdullah Sharshra opened the workshop indicating the goals of conducting legal awareness activities by Press House to provide journalists (women and men) with people and official entities rights of response, especially, in publishing journalistic materials.
Mr. Mohammed Al-Jeash reviewed the legal controls of the right response in the Palestinian law and the procedures must be followed when responding or correcting by the journalists (women and men) and media institutions in when they publish any journalistic materials. He also addressed the legal implications of not allowing the right holder to respond.
The workshop included many participations from journalists (women and men); most of them focused on the flaws and legal gaps on the right of reply to avoid being accused of committing the crime withholding the right of reply which is punishable by law after publishing the journalistic materials.
