Press House organize a hashtag tweet session on the topic of "Yes to Freedom of the Press"

On Thursday, January 28, 2021, Press House-Palestine (BAS) organized a hashtag session on the topic of “Yes to Freedom of the Press” as part of the project activities of “Legal Protection for the Palestinian Journalists” in partnership with the European Endowment for Democracy.

With consideration of high preventive measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, a group of social media influencers, journalists, media graduates and lawyers participated in the hashtag session, while the tweeps focused on “#Yes to Freedom of the Press”.

Lawyer, Abdullah Saharshra, coordinator of the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House opened the tweet session saying “the right of free opinion and expression is a fundamental human right and the accession of Palestine to the international conventions including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights obligates the official authorities to respect media freedoms and to work on amending the general laws, policies and measures with relevant international agreements.

From his part, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Taweel, coordinator of the Social Media Club, said “the campaign aims to emphasizing the importance of freedom of journalism work by using online advocacy tools that lead us to reach to a large number of social media users, also he stressed that the campaign achieved a great success reaching to more than 3000,000 followers which indicates the big attention from Palestinian follower toward the journalists and the freedom of opinion and expression.
