Press House organizes an open dialogue on the Palestinian Theatrical and Cinematic work

On Tuesday, Sep. 17th, the Cultural Club of the Press House - Palestine, in partnership with Touqan Literary Salon, organized an open dialogue entitled "The Relation of the Literary Production in the Palestinian Theatrical and cinematic Work", in Nuseirat Camp in the central of  Gaza Strip.

The meeting was opened by the writer Heba Sabri, in the presence of a group of writers, authors and filmmakers, to talk in three axes related to the Palestinian theatrical and cinematic literature, which faces many challenges.

Abdullah Tayeh, a member of the General Secretariat of the Palestinian Writers Union, spoke about the obstacles facing the literary text in the way of artistic and dramatic production.

He said: “I have always called to move such activities from Gaza City to other places and cities away from Gaza, so that everyone can benefit from these meetings”.

Tayeh added that the playwriting is a theatrical text that is completed by acting on stage, while literary writing is completed when the reader reads.

He explained that "One of our goals is to turn the novel or the story into a theatrical text that will be reviewed on stage. Noting that the process of transforming literary work must be done by preserving the writer's ideas.

From his side, the Director Salah Tafesh said in the axes of "Palestinian Literature in the Theatrical production"," I think through reading, we lack the local theatrical text in the Gaza Strip, which is "well-crafted and based on good drama."

Tafesh added: "We in Gaza do not have the elements of the artistic theatrical movement until this moment, we have honored individual activities in the theater but  they do not reach to the level of the artistic theatrical movement that documents, establishes and develops the objectives of the theatrical and artistic work.

In an interview with the Director Khaled Khammash on "The Palestinian Literature in Theatrical Production," he pointed out that there is no role for cinema to present the Palestinian cinematic works, even the official Palestine TV does not participate to present these works.

He also pointed out to the "YouTube" platform, where many of Palestinian artists have huge works uploaded free of charge because they have nowhere to present, stressing that the presentation on social media sites and festivals is the only outlet for artists in the Gaza Strip.

This open dialogue comes as part of a project “Towards an Independent Media Platform for Capacity building, Awareness, and Involvement of Journalists” Project, funded by the Norwegian and Swiss governments.
