Gaza - Press House
On Sunday, December 12, 2021, On the occasions of International Declaration of Human Right, Press House – Palestine (BAS) held a dialogue session on the topic of “The Rights of People with Disabilities in the Light of International Declaration of Human Rights”, as part of “Strengthening Free & Independent Media in Palestine” project activities, in partnership with the Norwegian and the Swiss Governments.
The dialogue session was held at Press House in Gaza City, with consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID 19, with participation of Mr. Mohammed Abu Kemail "Advocate the issues of people with disabilities" and Mr. Yousef Karsou "Lawyer at the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House", with presence of a number of journalists (women and men), students and graduates of colleges and persons with disabilities.
The Project Coordinator opened the dialogue session mentioning that this activity comes within the International Days, including the International Day of people with Disabilities, in conjunction with International Declaration of Human Rights.
Mr. Abu Kemail mentioned issues of people with disabilities in the Gaza Strip, their real concept and their need to provide their needs and integrate them.
Mr. Abu Kemail pointed the necessary for real work on create laws that guarantee the integration of people with disabilities at community and suitable to their abilities.
From his part, Mr. Karsou presented the agreements and laws related to the rights of people with disability at international and National levels. Also, he added that Palestine signed an agreement on the rights of people with disabilities in 2014 and Palestine should implement it inside the country.
Mr. Karsou called media professionals to adopt the issues of persons with disabilities in the Palestinian media by following different media methods in the process of raising awareness on their rights.
The dialogue session included many participations, which focused on the necessity of granting people with disabilities all their rights, integrating them into community and addressing their issues in the right way.
