Press House organizes a round table discussion on the topic of “Digital Media... Reality & Challenges”

On Sunday, February 1, 2021, Press House – Palestine (BAS) organized a round table discussion on the topic of “Digital Media… Reality & Challenges” as part of “Journalists Have Power” project activities funded by the Government of Canada.

With consideration of high preventive measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19, Eng. Osama Abo-Hassan, a specialist in digital media, Ms. Hanadi Olwan, coordinator of Journalists Have Power project, a group of journalists, media professionals, and graduates participated in the round table discussion.

Ms. Hanadi Olwan welcomed and introduced the participants to the project idea which aims to increase legal awareness and protection of journalists (women and men).

Eng. Osama Abo-Hassan addressed four aspects: what are the challenges that face the digital media? Is digital media a free platform for journalists? Could the digital media be an alternative to the traditional media? What are the advantages of electronic journalism?

The round table included many of participations and recommendations from participants; most of them focused on the necessity of having a law that will regulate the new digital media, the need to qualify the cadres in line with the development of digital media, and there should be digital media academic courses taught in the Palestinian universities. In addition, the journalists should develop themselves in all digital media fields. At the end, the participants called for a comprehensive digital media program which will prepare Palestinian journalists (women and men) to engage in the journalistic environment.
