Press House holds a dialogue meeting with a group of writers and authors

On the sideline of the International Writers and Copyright Day, the Press House – Palestine held a dialogue meeting with a group of writers and authors which took a place on Monday 23rd April 2018 in Al Salam Abu-Hassira Restaurant.

The meeting was opened by a representative of the Press House, Shrouq Jendia, who thanked the audience for accepting the invitation and praised the importance of celebrating the International writers and copyrights Day in appreciation to the importance of writers and authors.

Where, the meeting was moderated by Dr. Atef Abu Saif and he appreciated the Press House for holding this session on the occasion of International Book Day and the rights of authors in light of the circumstances in which the book retreated as a moral value in Palestine, which that retreat was considered to be closely related to the overall prevailed decline in the region nowadays.

While their participation, the audience clarified that there are reasons behind this retreat of the book such as the disappearance of state’s prize which it awards it to the outstanding writers in addition, the absence of the monetary situation and its decline on the scene,

Moreover, they stressed that the Palestinian adheres to core of the basic struggle, and the writers are the elite those capable to change.

It was a lso referred that our struggle would not be respected if it will not be an imposed law to maintain the Palestinian author’s rights and if there will not be a registered patents to preserve the rights.

Some attendees summed up the problems which facing the writers saying that “who own money can print books”, and social networking sites have made the real intellectual unknown.

At the end of the meeting, the audience thanked the Press House for reviving the International writers and Copyright Day, as it adopted the revival of this day for the second year in a row.

The meeting concluded by Dr. Atef Abu Saif, thanking the attendees for the invitation and stressing the need to continue supporting writers and authors.

The meeting was ended by a number of important recommendations, where most important of which is, that this should be a day to commemorate the writers every year, and that the foundation has to supports the writers and authors rights, in addition to encouraging literary works and its sponsorship by the state, also the need for Palestinian universities to adopt cultural forums and conferences, and it should be a committee as a sponsor of the authors and writers rights by pressing officials and decision makers.
