The Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) held a press conference at the headquarters of the Press House on Wednesday 5/9/2018 to launch a warning statement to the public and the international community about the impact of the worsening electricity crisis and lack of fuel on operating water and sanitation facilities. Which foreshadow an imminent water and environmental disaster that could lead to the sinking of some citizens' homes with sewage in many neighborhoods in Gaza Strip in case of the continuous existence of the crises and the absence of urgent intervention.

Eng. Munther Shoblaq, director general of the CMWU, said during the press conference, "This threatens the lives of thousands of people at any moment if there is still a shortage of fuel needed to operate the facilities, such as what happened before in Rafah, Khan Younis, Gaza and the north".

"The continued electricity crisis in Gaza, the increase of power cutting hours and running out of the quantities of diesel required for the operation of water and sanitation facilities, especially after finishing the grant allocated by OCHA, has significantly affected our ability to continue to provide the minimum required water and sanitation services to citizens in all governorates of Gaza strip," he proceeded.

He confirmed that this would lead to major crises and serious sequences affecting the lives of citizens directly, such as the interruption of water for long periods of up to a week and more. In addition to the decline in the possibilities in the collection, treatment and pumping sewage, which foreshadow the possibility of outbreaks sewage, especially in geographically low areas.
