Violations against Media Freedoms in Palestine

The Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House - Palestine (BAS) published a factsheet on the violations against media freedoms in Palestine in August 2023.

The factsheet highlighted violations committed against Palestinian journalists whether by Israeli Occupation, or Internal Palestinian entities, in addition to digital rights violations.

The number of committed violations against Media Freedoms during August in Palestine reached (141).

The Legal Protection Unit at Press House has documented (97) violations committed by Israeli Occupation representing (69%) of total violations, (11) internal violations representing (16%) and (28) violations of digital rights representing (20%).

The factsheet showed the distribution of violations by geographical area, which indicates that most of them were committed by Israeli Occupation in the West Bank, reaching (110) violations, (31) violations were committed in the Gaza Strip.

As for the internal violations, (10) were committed in the West Bank, and (6) were documented in the Gaza Strip.

As for the digital rights violations, the Legal Protection Unit monitored (28) digital violations, distributed between (3) violations of journalists from the West Bank and (25) violations of journalists from the Gaza Strip

The WhatsApp platform had also launched a campaign to close the accounts of a large number of journalists, and it was noted that the total digital rights violations of Palestinian journalists were committed by the company "Meta" as follows: (16) violations via Facebook, (8) of WhatsApp accounts, and (4) of Instagram accounts.
