The University College of Applied Science and the Press House Organize a Media Day

Gaza, 11/03/2017--- The University College For Applied Science organized on Saturday an initiative for media and Technology students, funded by Press House- Palestine at Commodore hotel in Gaza city.In his speech that opened the meeting with, Dr. Refat Rostom, Head of University College for Applied Science, said that this initiative is organized for BA and Diploma students aiming at providing them with practical and educational skills that guarantee their success in the professional future, and with the knowledge that connects media with technology. He also noted that the University College for Applied Science seeks to create a media generation that possesses creativity, strong character and the ability to make dialogues and give products.

Rostom explained that media graduate cannot be a journalist with only having an academic certificate, but they must care about the country’s issues, confirming that media graduates are the owners of weapons as the battle has become an ongoing media one.

Rostom asserted that the University College always seeks to present all possibilities to serve the students, so that they could be leaders in their field.

He thanked Press House for sponsoring and funding this program, looking forward to ongoing cooperation between the university college and the Press House.

In his turn, Belal Jadallah, the Chairman of the Press House, said that this activity is going to be the kick off of many other activities that serve the Palestinian National Media.

Jadallah explained that the Press House supports the Palestinian media and freedom of expression, confirming that this activity aims to develop the capacities of journalists.

Jadallah noted that the general situation in Palestine needs a Palestinian media that masters English language in order to enhance the Palestinian dialogue at all the international levels.

In his turn, Dr.Wael Abdel Aal, Head of Media Department, explained that the media day includes topics that keep the pace of the fourth generation and discussions for an elite of media people inside and outside Palestine to talk about their experiences in media.

Abdel Aal explained that the university college always seeks to get its male and female students involve in the reality and in the society.

Abdel Aal confirmed that an elite of university college students have got scholarships to continue their studies abroad, extending wishes to the students of more success.

The media day included hosting many successful media figures; Mohammad Kreshan, the broadcaster for Al-Jazeera Channel, who was hosted via a skype call, Dr.Adnan Abu Amer, the Dean of Media College for El-Omma University, the journalist Hamza Abu Shanab, the journalist Lames Al-Hems, Mr.Fayez Salha, Lecturer of Directing and  screenplay, the journalist Hesham Zaqout and the journalist No’man Ishtewi.

Hosting these journalists aimed at crossing their experiences, so that it could be contributing to filling in the gap between the local labor and the latest updates of the field.

Worth noting that this initiative comes within Capacity Building Program, and one of “ Enhancing Freedom of Expression, the Quality& Independancy of Media” Project’s activities, funded by the Swiss and Norwegian Governments.
