Press House organizes a cultural session on the topic of “Palestinian Literature and Freedom of Expression”

On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, Press House – Palestine (BAS) organized a cultural session on the topic of “Palestinian Literature and Freedom of Expression” as part of “Strengthening Free & Independent Media in Palestine” project activities funded by the Norwegian and the Swiss Governments.

With high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, Mr. Yousri Al-Ghoul, writer, Dr. Siham Abo Al-Amreen, Palestinian Literature Professor , Mr. Khaled Safi, Contemporary History Professor, and a group of intellectuals and active writers in the Palestinian community participated in the cultural session.

Mr. Yousri Al-Ghoul opened the session emphasizing that the goal of the session is to focus on the Palestinian literature and freedom of expression obstacles in front of writers in addition to peoples’ general cultural differences witnessed in the last few years.

Dr. Siham Abu Al-Amreen indicated the importance of writing and freedom as writers seek their freedom through their writings. However, oppression was an obstacle to reach their freedom indicating that some authorities considered writing as subversive revolutionary work.

From his part, Mr. Khaled Safi said “in the last period in the Arab countries, many poets and writers went on trials as literature is considered a resistance tool in the hands of intellectual.”

The cultural session included many participations; most of them focused on the needs to create a large space of freedom of expression for intellectuals and to demand the authorities to stop any activity restricting the freedom of Palestinian literature.
