On Monday, February 8, 2021, Press House – Palestine (BAS) organized an awareness workshop on the topic of “Raising Legal Awareness of Palestinian Journalists” as part of “Enhancing Free and Independent Media in Palestine” project activities funded by the Norwegian and the Swiss Governments.
With consideration of high prevention measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID19, a group of journalists, media graduates, and lawyers participated in the awareness workshop.
Mr. Abdullah Sharshra, the coordinator of the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House opened the workshop pointing out the importance of such workshops in raising the journalists’ (women and men) legal awareness. He added that the workshop provides journalists a simplified legal information on their rights in facing law enforcement agencies, especially in the case of arresting.
Mr. Yousif Karsoo, the facilitator of the awareness workshop, reviewed the journalists’ legal rights when they are arrested, detained, and subjected to inspection emphasizing that journalists must inform their lawyers, heads, legal bodies, and families in case they are exposed to any kind of violations.
The workshop included many of participations and recommendations from participants. Most of them focused on the methods and mechanisms of dealing with the law enforcement agencies in case they are exposed to any kind of violations.
