Press House organizes a round table discussion on the topic of “Enhance Legal Awareness Mechanisms for Journalists & Media Graduates”

On Tuesday, January, 26, 2021, Press House - Palestine (BAS) organized a round table discussion on the topic of “Enhance Legal Awareness Mechanisms for Journalists & Media Graduates” as part of “Journalists Have Power” project activities, funded by the Government of Canada.

With consideration of high preventive measures to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19, Ms., Andrea Niclaos, from the Canadian Consulate in Ramallah, Ms., Hanadi Olwan, coordinator of Journalists Have Power project, lawyer Abdullah Sharshra, coordinator of the Legal Protection Unit for Journalists at Press House and a group of journalists and media professionals, participated in the round table discussion.

Mr. Abdullah Sharshra, addressed four aspects to talk about enhancing legal awareness; Is it culture or profession? Is there sufficient legal awareness in our community? Is there legal protection to journalists? Does journalists aware of their rights and duties? 

The round table included many of participations and recommendations from participants; most of them focused on reviewing the laws related journalists as well as develop the Palestinian legislations, at the same time the journalists should be aware of their rights and have a wider knowledge in all fields.

In addition to, the importance of having a unified that protect journalists in case if they exposed to violations, and improve the curriculum and keep it up to date according to national development, as well as, an emphasis on that it must be an investigative journalism subject in the Palestinian universities.
