Gaza - Press House
On Sunday, November 8, 2020, Press House – Palestine (BAS) organized a workshop on the topic of "The Right of Reply in Palestinian Law", via "Zoom" application, in presence of a number of journalists from Gaza Strip, as a part of journalists Have a Power project funded by Canadian Government.
The facilitator of a workshop was Mr. Abdullah Sharshra - consultant of the legal unit in Press House – who talked about the legal problems concerning the granting of the rights of the parties related to the media article to reply or clarify.
Mr. Sharshra stressed that the journalist must document the granting of the rights of the parties concerned to reply, pointing out that one of the best means of the document is to use mail with the knowledge of arrival, where this type of mail allows the existence of written evidence of receipt of the relevant to request clarification or reply stamped by their signature.
Mr. Sharshra confirmed that the journalist is obliged according to Palestinian laws to provide the right of reply to the person concerned with the investigation, and to publish the reply or correction free, within two months of the date of publication of the media material.
Mr. Sharshra noted that a journalist could refuse to publish the right of reply if the journalist himself had published an adequate correction of his own.
