“Shaghaf” initiative sponsored by Press House organizes a seminar on the topic of 'Palestinian Literature and Hate Speech'

On Wednesday, August 12, 2020, Shaghaf Passion Cultural Initiative, in sponsorship by Press House, Palestine, held a dialogue seminar on the topic of "Palestinian Literature and Hate Speech" the seminar conducted in Gaza City in the presence of members of the initiative and a number of writers and those interested in cultural and media affairs.

The speakers of  the seminar Mr. Yousri Al-Goul , founder of the Shaqaf Initiative, writer and political analyst Tawfiq Abu Shumer, and Ms. Fida al-Jarro, public relations officer at Press House.

Mr.Al-Ghoul explained that hate speech in Palestinian literature needs to be reviewed, and to know what literary messages and writings carry to other people, stressing that literature is the mirror of people and its cultural face.

Ms. Al-Jaru confirmed that the seminar is one of the initiatives within  "Strengthening Free & Independent Media in Palestine ‎" project activities being implemented by Press House and aims to support journalistic youth initiative.

From his part Mr. Shumer, explained the nature of the interdependence of literature and the impact of politics on the product of the generation in Arabic literature, and the impact of the use of social media in the ratio of negative ideas and the promotion of hate speech.

Mr. Shumer explained that rejecting hate speech within the strategy of Palestinian literature is by correcting sentences and words written in their various topics and using non-violent terms that may reinforce and support hate speech.

Mr. Shumer addressed some Western countries have used Arab culture which is rich in ideas and creativity, in producing works that have become a major influence in the Western and Arab world.

The seminar included many participation from participants, writer Mr. Shumer stressed that avoid hate speech by tolerance, and didn’t  use  terms and words that carry hate, whether people or religions, stressing that the media and literature have a great role  in supporting and communicating the literary message.
